Sustainability
I am very proud of our enterprise. We are very committed to sustainability and being a green company. Recently we hired a Chief Sustainability Officer for the company. She is looking at every aspect of our operation for ways to improve.
Last month we published our sustainability report and sent a copy to all our customers and many of our vendors. It is an exciting document that every employee should read and understand.
Just one small aspect of our new HQ is very indicative of how we think. The cafe started to serve lunch to all employees every day for free. This isn't an insignificant investment for the enterprise but look at it from their side.
- Employees don't leave the campus and drive to another establishment for lunch. Let gasoline being used and less pollutants being produced.
- By not leaving the typical lunch has gone from about 75 minutes due to travel time to about 30 minutes. More time is being spent working
- The cafe is fairly small and needs to be a little cramped. Tables fill up quickly so you grab any spot that is free. With this you sit with co-workers you may rarely talk with. The conversations can be very interesting and productive. I have had lunch with folks from research, logistics, marketing and manufactuing. You can't HELP but learn more about the enterprise.
- The food is all very healthy. Low fat, low sodium and very nutritious. Everyone is eaty healthier and not as many fast food, high calorie, high cholesteral foods. That is definately a GOOD thing for everybody.
In that light, it isn't a bad investment for the company.
